WX-7

​After years of research and more than $350,000 in development cost by Paul Ryan the original WX-7 ((Ryan))) Stormscope system was introduced at the Reading Air Show in 1976 for $5,000. The WX-7 and WX-7A is a four piece system including a display, receiver, processor and antenna. No longer in production it is not supported by the factory and we do not recommended it for a new installation. Part Numbers: processor 377D25, display 278D02, receiver 175C27 and antenna 378.


WX-8

Introduced in 1981 and no longer in production the WX-8 Stormscope is a two piece system including a processor/display and antenna. Key Features: up to 100 nm range, 135 degree view of forward airspace and 3-color liquid crystal display. We do not recommend it for a new installation. Part Numbers: processor/display 580D01 changed to 78-8041-7819-8 after the sale to 3M, antenna 378 changed to 78-8041-7905-5 after the sale to 3M. The dual connector antennas part number 378 and 78-8041-7905-5 are no longer manufactured and have been replaced by a single connector antenna part number 78-8060-5860-4 which will require a new connector and have to be rewired per service letter SL-151. We do not recommend it for a new installation.


WX-9

Introduced in 1981 and no longer in production the WX-9 Stormscope basically includes all of the WX-10 features, except that the range is 100 nm with forward view only. Part Numbers: processor 380D41 changed to 78-8041-7712-5 after the sale to 3M, display 280D41 changed to 78-8041-7591-3 after the sale to 3M, antenna 378, 78-8041-7905-5, 78-8041-7950-1 and 78-8060-5860-4. The dual connector antennas part number 378 and 78-8041-7905-5 are no longer manufactured and have been replaced by a single connector antenna part number 78-8060-5860-4 which will require a new connector and have to be rewired per service letter SL-151. We do not recommend it for a new installation.


WX-10

Introduced in 1981 and no longer in production the WX-10 Stormscope is a three piece system including a separate processor, CRT display and antenna. Key Features: four selectable ranges 25, 50, 100 and 200 nm, two selectable views 360 degree or 180 degree view of forward airspace and test function to verify proper operation. Part Numbers: 380D03 changed to 78-8041-7673-9 after the sale to 3M, display 280D40 changed to 78-8041-7634-1 after the sale to 3M, antenna 378, 78-8041-7905-5, 78-8041-7950-1 and 78-8060-5860-4. The dual connector antennas part number 378 and 78-8041-7905-5 are no longer manufactured and have been replaced by a single connector antenna part number 78-8060-5860-4 which will require a new connector and have to be rewired per service letter SL-151. WX-10A

Introduced in 1981 and no longer in production the WX-10A Stormscope includes all of the WX-10 features plus improved storm definition and accuracy. Part Numbers: processor 78-8047-0985-1, display 78-8047-0984-4, antenna 378, 78-8041-7905-5, 78-8041-7950-1 and 78-8060-5860-5. The dual connector antenna part number 378 and 78-8041-7905-5 are no longer manufactured and have been replaced by a single connector antenna part number 78-8060-5860-4 which will require a new connector and have to be rewired per service letter SL-151. We do not recommend it for a new installation.


WX-10AJ

Introduced in 1981 and no longer in production the WX-10AJ Stormscope is the jet version and includes all of the WX-10A features, except the dots stay on the screen for two minutes compared to four minutes for the WX-10 & WX-10A. Part Numbers: processor 78-8047-0988-5, display 78-8047-0987-7, antenna 378, 78-8041-7905-5, 78-8041-7950-1 and 78-8060-5860-4. The dual connector antennas part number 378 and 78-8041-7905-5 are no longer manufactured and have been replaced by a single connector antenna part umber 78-8060-5860-4 which will require a new connector and have to be rewired per service letter SL-151. WX-10J

Introduced in 1981 and no longer in production the WX-10J Stormscope is the jet version and includes all of the WX-10 features, except the dots stay on the screen for two minutes compared to four minutes for the WX-10. WX-11

Introduced in 1981 and no longer in production the WX-11 includes all of the WX-10 series features plus it is heading stabilized, it automatically keeps weather information relative to the current aircraft heading. Part Numbers: processor 78-8047-0958-8, display 78-8047-0966-1, antenna 378, 78-8041-7905-5, 78-8041-7950-1 and 78-8060-5860-4. The dual connector antenna part number 378 and 78-8041-7905-5 are no longer manufactured and have been replaced by a single connector antenna part number 78-8060-5860-4 which will require a new connector and have to be rewired per service letter SL-151. WX-11J

WX-12

Introduced in 1984 the WX-12 is a three piece Stormscope system that is used in conjunction with some of the older Sperry color weather radar systems to simultaneously display precipitation information with electrical discharge data on the Sperry radar display. No longer in production , it is not recommended for a new installation. Part Numbers: 78-8047-0940-6, control head 78-8047-0928-1 and antenna 78-8041-7950-1. We do not recommend it for a new installation.


WX-110

The WX-110 Stormscope is a ground based system based on the WX-900 technology. Part Numbers: console assembly 78-8060-6045-1 and antenna 78-8060-5970-1.


WX-120

The WX-120 Stormscope is a ground based system based on the WX-10 technology. Part Numbers: console assembly 78-8041-8000-4 and antenna 78-8041-7950-1.


WX-500

Introduced in 1997 the WX-500 is a current production two piece Stormscope system including a processor and antenna. The WX-500 was designed exclusively for use with your multi-function display. Key Features: up to 200 nm range, pilot selectable strike and cell modes, two selectable views 360 degree or 120 degree view of forward airspace, gyro-stabilized that automatically keeps weather information relative to the current aircraft heading, stores lightning data on all ranges simultaneously, strike rate indicator, view lightning on multiple displays at the same time, and view on dedicated page or overlaid on moving map. Part Numbers: processor 805-11500-001, antenna 805-10930-001(white finish) 805-10930-002 (black finish) and complete system 830-11500-001.

The Dynon SkyView & Garmin G500 & G600 will not currently interface with the WX-500 but there could be possible software udates from Dynon & Garmin at some point. Your MFD may require a software upgrade to interface with the WX-500. The Argus moving map dispays are history with no factory support or database updates available.



WX-900

No longer in production the WX-900 is a two piece system including a display/processor and antenna that provides a full 360 degree view of weather or 180 degree during monitor modes, with pilot selectable ranges of 25, 50 and 100 nm. The supertwist LCD is a self-contained panel-mount unit with electroluminescent backlighting. The WX-900 performs a self test after turn on, then performs test continuously during system operation. The system features push button selection of view, pilot initiated self test program, brightness adjustment, time mode which provides elapsed flight time and approach timer functions, battery monitor mode which monitors the aircraft electrical system and a noise analyzer mode. An integral service menu includes strike test, spectrum analyzer and board test modes. Part Numbers: display/processor 78-8060-5960-2, antenna 78-8060-5970-1 and complete system 78-8060-5980-0.


WX-950

Introduced in 1996 the WX-950 is no longer in production. It is a two piece Stormscope system including a display/processor and antenna. The WX-950 provides two modes of operation, cell mode and strike mode. In cell mode the WX-950 detects lightning up to 200 nm out and displays storm cell areas of greatest intensity. During periods of heavy electrical activity the cell mode can be used to identify a path that avoids thunderstorms. In strike mode the system detects and maps individual strikes aiding the identification of the beginnings of storms. It operates in 25, 50 , 100 and 200 nm ranges, displays a 360 degree view of electrical activity in all directions and a forward 120 degree view that doubles the resolution for analyzing activity ahead. When configured with a compatible heading system the WX-950 provides heading stabilization. Introduced in 2009 the WX-950G is a ground based system based on the WX-950 technology. Part Numbers: processor unit 805-10951-001 and antenna 805-10930-001.


WX-1000

Introduced in 1988 the WX-1000 is a current production three piece Stormscope system including a separate processor, CRT display and antenna. Key Features: time and date information, stopwatch and timing information and checklists can be selected from the main menu. All units feature a automatic continuous self test and pilot initiated self test with error messages that assure accurate weather detection. The WX-1000 has pilot selectable ranges of 25, 50, 100 and 200 nm and provides either 360 or 120 degree viewing options. The high resolution CRT display provides a sunlight readable storm activity picture that can be used in tandem with conventional radar systems to determine the severity and stages of storms. Electrical discharge information is acquired and stored on all ranges simultaneously. Other features provide six programmable checklists, each containing a maximum of 30 lines with up to 20 characters per line. WX-1000+

Introduced in 1988 the WX-1000+ Stormscope is in current production and includes all of the WX-1000 features plus it is heading stabilized. It automatically keeps weather information relative to the current aircraft heading. Part Numbers: processor 78-8051-9160-4, display 78-8051-9170-3, new style display after 1989, 78-8060-5900-8 black bezel 78-8060-5900-9 gray bezel, antenna 78-8051-9200-8whitefinish 78-8051-9220-6 black finish and system part number 78-8051-9240-4.


WX-1000E with ARINC 429 EFIS option

The WX-1000E with ARINC 429 EFIS option transmits thunderstorm information to an EFIS display system or a weather radar indicator via an ARINC 429 serial data link. Interface with a weather radar indicator requires the L-3 Avionics Systems RGC250. This option also enables the WX-1000 to receive heading stabilization data from an ARINC 429 source. The WX-1000/SKY497 display can be installed with this option or the EFIS can be the only display. If the WX-1000 display is not installed, thunderstorm information will be the only data available (e.g. features such as checklist, date/time, stopwatch, elapsed timers, etc. will not be available). Post installation checkout of the WX-1000E requires a WX-1000 display. When installing the WX-1000 processor be sure to include a display cable (minimum two feet). The KMD 550 and KMD 850 MFD will interface with the 78-8060-6086-5 processor (a KAC 504 part number 071-00166-0411 traffic board must be installed in the MFD. WX-1000E with ARNIC  429 NAVAID option

The WX-1000E with the Arinc 429 NAVAID option provides the capability to receive navigation data via an ARINC 429 low speed (12.5kHz) data bus. It maintains all the features of the WX-1000E with the RS-232-422 Navaid option. Part Numbers: processor 78-8060-6092-3, display 78-8060-5900-8 (black bezel) 78-8060-5900-9 (gray bezel) and antenna 78-8051-9200-8 (white finish) 78-8051-9220-6 (black finish).


WX-1000E with RS-232/RS-422 NAVAID option

The WX-1000E with the RS232/RS-422 NAVAID option maintains all the features of the WX-1000 with the addition of an opto-isolated RS-232C or RS422 serial communications port to receive navigation information from a variety of Loran and GPS receivers. This enables the WX-1000 to display a comprehensive avoidance and navigation picture.
